The 2nd Combat Arms Sailing Regatta (CASR),  sponsored by Qioptiq and TQ, took place at Seaview Isle of Wight 21-23 May 12.

Following its inaugural success in 2011 we attracted a record number of entries this year with 23 crews competing for the Combat Cup this year which has been kindly provided by the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment.   The Royal Armoured Corps and Infantry ran their separate competitions with in the main Regatta and Major Tom Holloway with his crew from the Army Personnel Centre Glasgow won the Combat Cup in a very close battle with Major Alex Mckay’s crew from the Mercian Regiment. The Regatta was blessed with blue skies and fair winds enabling an impressive 14 races in two days. The racing was closely fought with three boats going into the last race on equal points. The standard of racing was good throughout incorproating novice and experienced crews – the spinnaker drills were very slick by the end of the Regatta!. Director Combat, Brigadier Justin Maciejewski DSO MBE (LATE RIFLES) visited the Regatta and noted that much of its success is underpinned by our generous sponsors QIOPTIQ and TQ. Dave Bell and Sam Callister from QIOPTIQ added much value to the Regatta both on and off the water with Dave skippering the Yorkshire Regiment B Crew into 3rd place overall. Racing at Seaview in the unique Mermaids (26 ft keel boats) is inclusive, challenging and good fun with the opportunity for gifted amateurs and novice sailors to cement valueable friendships across the Combat Arms.
