It was a gloriously warm sunny Sunday in July for the Team Army Captains v Subalterns annual polo tournament which took place again at the beautiful grounds of Tidworth Polo Club.

Families, friends and polo enthusiasts turned out with picnics, dogs and children in tow for a relaxing Sunday of great polo in one of the oldest polo clubs in the country. This year saw a record 20 teams participate in 5 divisions. There was a great range of abilities from young men and women who only started playing 3 weeks ago, to the most experienced of players.

The ponies did struggle in the heat at times, but players and ponies alike really entertained the crowds in some quite closely fought matches. It was heartening to talk to some of the players and learn how much pleasure they get out of being engaged in the sport.

A fantastic win for the King’s Royal Hussars who beat the RAF A in a thrilling final to take the 2016 Team Army Captains and Subalterns Trophy. Best player was 2Lt Jonathon Quicke Light Dragoons.
