SPORTING ACHIEVEMENT BRINGS REWARDS

For several years we have supported the 3 (UK) Div’s challenge cup — The Iron Trophy. An award contested right across the Division with sport, adventure training, annual military tests physical training snd development all contributing to the unit’s overall performance and score. The prize? — an oversize cheque!  Each Bde’s winning unit received £1000 to be spent furthering sporting participation and excellence. A fabulous injection of non-public funds helping open opportunities for all ranks to participate and enjoy sport.

As per previous years, the culmination of the Division’s operational shooting competition provided a fitting occasion for the two sponsors, Qioptiq and Heckler & Koch to join the GOC, Maj Gen James Swift in presenting shooting and Iron Trophy prizes. For the companies involved, it also provided an excellent opportunity for their equipment ‘end-users’ to see, touch and feel the newest kit and of course discuss issues and provide valuable feed-back.

With beautiful spring weather as a start to the Bank Holiday weekend, it provided a great day for all to enjoy and for some to also pick up sizeable cheques, and of course, the coveted Iron Trophy. This year, the overall winners are The Royal Lancers. Congratulations to all and glad Team Army has been able to ‘make a difference’.

Winners of £1000 each: Royal Tank Regt, The Royal Lancers, Queen’s Royal Hussars, 4 Bn REME, 21 Engr Regt. £500 also goes to the winning reserve unit; 156 Regt RLC. [Main image – Maj Gen James Swift presents the Iron Trophy]
