‘Millionaire’s golf’ is a term used by golfers to describe and depict playing on an excellent course, in perfect weather and idyllic surroundings and therefore an expression very apt for the 2019 inter-services competition last month; we struck lucky! Enville GC near Stourbridge played host to the Mens and Ladies teams from the three Services to battle it out for the honours and the tri-service crown in fabulous warm, blue-skied sunshine on a course in perfect condition and a beautiful setting.

Playing a significant role in securing the funding for this prestigious event, Team Ethos also brought a number sponsors together to enjoy the final day, lap up the atmosphere and knock little white balls into holes with varying degrees of prowess and success! Not so with the Service teams that all played with immense skill and expertise. Of course somebody had to win and it was the RAF that pulled off an extremely tight finish to beat the Army into second place in the final of the mens event, whilst it was the Army that took the ladies crown. The headline sponsors Trend Micro and SBL played a starring role in supporting the event supported by Leonardo Helicopters and Heckler and Koch.  It is also thanks to the likes of Porcher who sponsored a hole that added to the frisson of the Team Ethos sponsors’ round and the competition. This last day brought together a much wider and eclectic group of industry partners, Services golf officials and again an invited team from the Royal British Legions’s Battle Back programme culminations in a joint prize giving and buffet before lowering the flags and heading back home.

A fabulous event, enjoyed by all and which we hope to replicate in 2020 at the windswept Saunton Sands GC in Sep.
