The end of October is always a key date for the sports car racers from all three services as it is the Birkett Relay at Silverstone. Over 70 teams on the track with an eclectic mix of cars it is a relay race like no other! Six hours to do battle with several cars in each team and an amazing handicap system that closes the relative performance gaps, it is a race for all to watch although racers and spectators alike struggle to follow exactly who is where!

This is also the race that marks the interservice challenge and so competition was intense to try and clinch victory and uphold service pride. All teams had to struggle to keep the wheels turning as the endurance race took its toll on machinery but a close final result saw the RAF taking victory with the Army coming in second and the Royal Navy taking third.

Supported by many sponsors and supporters and blessed with dry weather it was a great day for the petrol-heads! CARWOOD rose to the occasion to sponsor the event which enabled everyone to enjoy a fabulous hog roast and helped with entry fees and prize money – all very much appreciated to help defray the costs of this extraordinary event. Well done the RAF for taking the top podium spot and managing the day and of course well done Team CARWOOD for allowing us all to enjoy it in such style!
