Team Army proudly announces its newest Ambassador – Laura Wright, the Nation’s sporting soprano.
With over a million album sales under her belt, Laura Wright has been one of the biggest selling classical artists this decade. Laura is very enthusiastic about helping servicemen and women to experience sports at every level. ‘I grew up being very passionate about sports so it’s wonderful for me as a musician to feel like I can help Team Army with their mission to raise funds for Forces sports; I want to help the best get better!’
An extremely accomplished sports person, Laura has trained to county level in hockey, netball, tennis and javelin. While she now concentrates on her music career, the sporting soprano continues to feed her love of sports with boxing, crossfit, pilates, playing rugby for Rossyln Park and by raising money for charity in running and cycling events.
The Army takes sport very seriously, not just because it expects its personnel to be fit to serve, but because the values and standards enshrined in sport perfectly match those held so highly in the Armed Forces. Soldiers are expected to work in a team for the good of the team, to strive to be the best at what they do, to be disciplined enough to succeed against the toughest challenges and to learn from and overcome defeat.
Laura is committed to helping Team Army raise funds for forces sports and is proud to be supporting many military sporting events throughout the year. Laura’s personal connection to sport and her passion for the charity’s objectives will help raise the profile of Team Army and ultimately help many more soldiers to take part in sport.
NOTES TO EDITORS:
The Team Army Sports Foundation is a registered charity which raises funds for forces sport. Sport is critical to the welfare and morale of our forces, yet taking part in sport is often expensive and in some cases, beyond the means of our personnel. Team Army helps to make sport more accessible by reducing the cost of participation as well as increasing the opportunity for our injured troops to take part in competitive sport.
