Team Army sponsors and supporters at the ‘Home of Cricket’ … Lord’s.
This year’s UKAF Interservices T20 came a lot earlier than usual in mid May. There was a promise of fine weather and they got it right! 108 Team Army supporters and sponsors as well as military sports officials and representatives gathered for a wonderful day of fast-paced cricket at the cricket lovers’ paradise, Lord’s Cricket Ground in north London. This is the seventh year the MCC has hosted the UKAF IST20, which started life in 2005 at Aldershot.
Three games of cricket in one day saw a tri-service competition that was very entertaining indeed, with the Army, the Royal Air force and the Royal Navy playing two games each. As the tournament was staged earlier this year the teams had less time to prepare, but the cricket was still top notch. In mild conditions the day kicked off at 10am with the Army batting first to eventually see off the RAF and win the match at 153 – 8. The second match of the day, RAF v Royal Navy, saw the RAF batting first to score an impressive 209 runs. The Royal Navy didn’t come up to scratch and were all bowled out in the final over for 124. Before the last match of the day, the sun shone across the pitch and we were entertained by The Duke of York’s Royal Military School’s marching band. A really fine sight! The last match saw the Navy go in to bat first achieving a somewhat modest score of 126 – 4. The Army, brimming with confidence from their first victory, proved far too strong and won the day. Well done to the team in red!
Team Army guests were treated to a fabulous day of quality cricket, invaluable networking and great Lord’s hospitality. Thank you to all who attended to make it such an enjoyable and memorable day.
