The Army Parachute Association was delighted to host the 18th Armed Forces Parachute Championships here at Netheravon in August 2017. Despite the challenging weather conditions over the first week the competition was a great success. With sixty-one teams and nearly 200 competitors coming from not only the UK, but as far afield as the USA and Sri Lanka, the DZ was alive with skydivers and was one of the most well attended championships ever.
Thanks to the great sponsorship from Team Army and Revision Eyewear, we were able to provide training jumps and cover the competition fees for two Revision Eyewear teams from the REME and the Royal Signals. This invaluable sponsorship culminated in both teams achieving a podium finish amongst stiff competition.
The competition took in five disciplines including Accuracy, Wingsuit Acrobatics and Formation Skydiving. All three Services competed in a good natured but very competitive championship. The AFPC culminated in the main prize-giving in glorious sunshine and was attended by Lt Gen Lorimer, President of the Army Parachute Association who presented the prizes alongside Brigadier Paul Cain, Chairman of the APA.
Despite the British weather throwing a tantrum now and then, we have had a successful year with many skydiving successes. With great instructors, a well organised DZ and some great encouragement and sponsorship from Team Army and Revision Eyewear, we aim to go from strength to strength over the coming years. Our goal is always to produce well taught, safe and enjoyable, skydiving for all, whether it’s a tandem jump for fun or taking a novice through their journey from the first jump to becoming an experienced skydiver, the Army Parachute Association is determined to be and stay the best.
