UKAF Rugby Remembrance Match
There is nothing quite like rugby to draw in the crowds and 15th Nov, at the new Ashton Gate stadium at Bristol was no exception, at least for those that managed to battle through the dreadful traffic in time!
The UKAF Rugby team faced the Bristol Bears for the annual Remembrance Day fixture with very much the Royal British Legion being a prominent part of the evening’s proceedings; the display of the poppy and the match following the on-pitch act of remembrance.
Now the second year at Bristol, having moved the fixture from the Rec ground at Bath, it is always a tremendous occasion giving the opportunity for the best of the three services to play on the big stage against a prominent, championship team.
Team Ethos played a pivotal roll in bring together many sponsors and supporters to the event that raises a significant sum for UKAF rugby, in a season that will lead up to next year’s tour to Japan and competing in the International Defence Rugby Competition (IDRC) alongside the World Cup.
Dell EMC were much in evidence as the headline sponsor of UKAF Rugby but many others contributed to allow Chairman, AVM Rocky Rochelle and his team to stage such a prestigious event. What a fantastic event, bringing some 400 sponsors and supporters from all three services to the hospitality to then join the RBL and many many others in the stands. A resounding success even though the eventual scoreline handed victory to the Bears it was a Remembrance Match of the highest standard played in a fantastic facility with the buzz and social atmosphere only rugby produces!
Well done The Bristol Bears with their 32 – 22 win – three tries for UKAF from McNally, Bell and Mann. 1 x Penalty and 2 x conversions from Huntley – (after defeat in 2017) but also well done to Team Ethos, Dell EMC, UKAF Rugby and the many people that helped produce such a memorable occasion and help fund forces sport.
