RAdm Jim McCloud addressing the reception

Sweltering in the heat but enjoying the sun, this week has seen Sheffield play host to the fantastic Invictus UK Trials, the pre-curser to selecting the UK team for the International Invictus Games in The Hague next year. Team Ethos has been appointed the official fundraising partner and kicked the week off by hosting the official VIP opening reception, so generously supported by Spectra, Lockheed Martin and Sapper Support — a great ice-breaker and launch event.

So, a fabulous start to a truly inspirational week of sports and parallel activities to make this a truly memorable occasion with the focus around every individual’s recovery journey and the invaluable part that sport and the arts can play in achieving so much.

With a great concert performed by many musical stars including Laura Wright, Eliot Kennedy and many others, it has been both entertaining and moving to appreciate how these trials can allow such a wide and diverse veteran community achieve things they never thought possible and the ability to overcome mental and physical adversity.

A huge congratulations to the competitors and supporters, the many volunteers and officials, H4H, the city of Sheffield, Style for Soldiers and the performing stars but most of all to our members of Team Ethos that have enabled our charity to support this fantastic cause.

Many by now will know it does not stop here and will lead to The Hague in 2020 and beyond and our enthusiasm to maintain the momentum and support though a coordinated fundraising cycle ride to The Hague and the opening of the Games in May. Start dusting off that lycra!
